Literary conversation with the literary expert Sylvia Schwab
Julia von Lucadou’s debut novel “Die Hochhausspringerin“ (The Skyscraper Jumper) received rave reviews upon its publication in 2018. It is set in a global megacity, a glossy world in which the border between welfare and surveillance has long dissolved. Two women are in competition: the professional athlete Riva refuses to continue functioning perfectly; the psychologist Hitomi is charged with leading Riva back onto her hyper-efficient path.
What makes “Die Hochhausspringerin” so impressive is the accuracy with which it describes a world which is optimized, but inhuman for that very reason. A modern variation on George Orwell’s “1984”. Read the book in parallel with the exhibition and reflect your impressions over a glass of wine with Sylvia Schwab.
