Christa Sommerer in conversation with Catherine Mundt of the radio station hr2-kultur
Christa Sommerer and Laurent Mignonneau work at the interface of art, natural sciences and technology: for their interactive installations, which always include the visitor in the creative process, the artist couple employs current computer technologies. Thus, their work “Interactive Plant Growing” creates a direct connection between real plants and virtual nature – real and digital realities are interwoven. The artist couple has been working together since 1992, having studied with Peter Weibel at the Städelschule in the early 1990s. Teaching positions have taken them to the USA and to Japan; today they live and work in Linz. Christa Sommerer, who also studied biology and sculpture, speaks to Catherine Mundt of hr2-kultur about her artistic development and the possibilities of digital art.
