“I think, therefore I am” / “Cogito ergo sum”
Thursday, May 16, 5:30 to 6:30 pm
“I think, therefore I am” (René Descartes). Our senses betray us. A malevolent God could upend the laws of nature from one day to the next. Everything is doubtful, except for one thing: the fact that I think is beyond doubt. Mankind can think anything, and in thought, human beings relate to everything. Thinking creates networks; everything is connected with everything else. Chiharu Shiota makes invisible relations visible in her art, creating an artistic symbolic language which allows the thinking individual to sensually experience the process of thinking, thoughts and whatever has been thought and reflected emotionally – finally ending in awed astonishment.
